What an awesome piece!
Simply WOW! super sound in all settings. If you pull the gain very high (and with PAD against it) increases the saturation but also the noise. Cleverly used an absolute universal classic at a bargain price. The construction is also no problem for anyone who knows circuit boards and soldering irons.

transparent, punchy, flexible!
It was my first Sound Skulptor build and it was great fun - perfect documentation, I have to applaud JPK for his efforts! When I messed up a connector, JPK was of great help providing links for re-ordering part. He answered so quickly. I use the CP4500 on drum buss mostly, not on the mixbus. Compared it against UAD SSL4000 G Bus Compressor and it sounds a bit lighter, not that "gluey", but very punchy and more open. I was surprised how it worked as a buss compressor on backing vocals. Very transparent! Great unit.

lots of colour, but far from subtle
it is a great colour box, but the saturation is very bold. I like it on kicks, bass, and dirt mics. But not on anything fragile. I cannot recommend it for busses and surely not the 2-bus. Plugins sounded a lot cleaner and gave more control here. Though the TS500 is fun and nice to have in the tool kit.

Vraiment compétent ce DOA!
Je l'utilise en application HI-Fi. Ce truc en reproduction audio est un vrai bijoux! Un son super naturel et agréable. Les mesures FFT le confirme! Bravo pour ce superbe produit!!

Super son à un prix imbattable.
J'ai deux 5176, deux hairball 1176 et un kt-76. Le kt-76 n'est pas mal, les hairball sont vraiment top mais ils coûtent plus du double. En gros, je n'ai rien trouvé de mieux qualité/prix. Sans hésiter, si j'avais besoin d'un autre 1176 je reprendrais un 5176 (c'est pour ça que j'ai deux unitées, en "fet" ;P)

parfait pour les sons percussifs !
C'est un vrai bonheur sur la caisse clair, la grosse caisse et les toms ! J'aime l'utiliser sur la basse et guitare metal, tout ce qui est assez percussif, il répond parfaitement.

Parfait pour les voix, guitare acoustique, overhead
Je l'utilise sur des voix, guitare acoustique, overhead batterie (j'ai enfin un beau et vrai son de cymbale !).
Il est assez doux et enrichi délicatement le son.

Excellent guide, great compressor
Had a blast putting this one together. All the documentation was super helpful, especially the printed resistor colour code guide. Ran into some trouble upon testing, and with prompt responses from Jean-Pierre I was able to find an unsoldered SMD pin. Calibration was easy, and it sounds great. Love how this sounds on master bus duties, and the mix knob is truly the magic ingredient for this compressor.

Another great piece of gear
I must say this is a very good preamp when it comes to that „bigger than life“-sounds on vocals.It was very easy to build,same as all the other kits I built from Soundskulptor so far.Very well prepared,no missing parts,superfast shipping to germany.Another great addition to my arsenal,congrats Jean-Pierre!

Amazing quality and thoughtful engineering & design
I’m blown away by the quality of this kit. I have built other DIY kits and they have all been great, but the quality of this kit blew me away. Once you put it together with the backing plate and potentiometer boards, it’s so sturdy and high quality feeling. The sound of this EQ is fantastic to my ears. Having it in 500 series format it’s going to make it super easy to throw on everything. I’m definitely going to buy more Sound Skulptor kits!
