MC624 Monitor Controller / Back panrl assembly

 How do you get the back panel on without breaking something? The rightmost 4 female XLR connectors seem to make it impossible to put the panel on. It seems like there is no way to get the panel over the XLR release tabs because the TRS connectors stick out too far.

Is there a method or technique I am missing?

So is it safe to cut the pins shorter on the OEP transformers after you've soldered them?

The only reason I ask is because on some transformers it isn't safe. Per Lundahl told me not to do it on his transformers because the pins are actually hollow with wires soldered inside, and you could damage them.
