Title: SS CP554 Diode bridge compressor
Post by: Dolbah on March 31, 2022, 05:48:47 PM
So! SS CP554 Diode bridge compressor is announced.

I allready have 2xMP573 with EQ573 Mk2 and CP4500

So, of course the CP554 looks very tempting! But i look inside, and see many of the same componenets. Same transformers etc.

Would i gain anything new with the diode bridge type compression in compared to running the 573s and CP4500?

I also have a pair of JLM LA500 comps, and a API529, but my GAS is feeling the urge to collect all the various types of compression into my setup. (And also i love the build process)

But i am haveing a feeling that i'll not gain that much new sonic terrain with the CP554..

Change my mind!!

Thanks

It belongs to the same family and for sure shares some similarities, soundwise.
I would say that if you like the Neve sound, the compressor will allow you to add some more to your tracks.
Also the side chain is completely different from the CP4500. It has its own character.

Cool! Are you close to launching them?

We are only waiting for some Carnhill transformers, expected this month.

Hey! It's missing a parts explanation for C13 and C37, they're both different but you show both in the assembly guide on both occasions.

Hey! It's missing a parts explanation for C13 and C37, they're both different but you show both in the assembly guide on both occasions.

A qualified guess: C13 is the one labelled 106L and C37 is 1035? but when I did a basic google search on tantalum caps the 106L was 35v ...

The plot thickens as it says C36 on your picture of the PCB as well as on the layout but C37 on the PCB and partslist...

There's an error in the layout, the Carnhill transformers are mixed up!

C13 = 10u25V = 106L
C37 = 10u35V = 10u35

C13 = 10u25V = 106L
C37 = 10u35V = 10u35

thanks!
