Title: C8 keeps failing
Post by: Awrange on October 23, 2021, 11:51:06 PM
Hey JP,

Everytime I ran the EQ in tandem with the MP573 the C8 cap instantly started failing.
It started by sound cutting out periodically until the cap completely failed, then the sound returns.

I replaced the Nichicon cap with a Panasonic FM 330uF 25V capacitor twice.
The orientation of the capacitor was fine every time.

After the third time failing I measured DC from J2.9 to common ground and had a reading of about -9V which would mean the current flows opposite to what it should?
I then replaced the cap once more but opposite of the direction in the guide and on the pcb.
This seems to work fine.

As the cap should go towards ground on the equalizer pcb this seems odd.
Do you have any idea what's the deal with this?

Very embarrassing!
There is an error on the PCB.
The plus side of C8 should be on the left , near the inductor L2.
Thank you for pointing this out.
Let me know if you need a replacement capacitor.

Hey JP,

thanks for clarifying.
I already replaced the cap so everything should be fine.
Glad I could help you find a problem ;)
